Little Big Black Dress: IGIGI

A very nice lady with the cool name Ozlem emailed me after reading the Ticked off at Target rant. She asked if she could send me an item from the San Francisco based plus sized clothing line IGIGI to check out. Um. Yes!

When I first looked at their site my head was still into the boho casual cotton chic that Target had going on in their regular sized line so I wasn't getting as excited about their more urban and formal clothing. I hemmed and hawed and then like a brat finally picked out this blac
k wrap dress.

When i
t came I was humbled. The quality was the first thing that took me by surprise since as Chica has mentioned "It's either spend $5 on a crappy tee or $120 on an good one". We seem to have lost our affordable and well made middle ground. This dress was silky and the stitching was tight and nice. Right away I noticed that silky did not equal clingy as it often does. You could tell this dress would skim your curves. The cleavage didn't go too low and the skirt had a nice swish. I felt trendy but classic. If IGIGI wasn't asking me to send the dress back it would be in my closet as the GO-TO dress for just about any dress up occasion I had. In fact I may have to tuck in the tags and give it a trial run on a date night before packing it up.

I'm mixed about some of the other items on the site. This shirt makes me feel like a bit too much like Jerry Seinfeld in the puffy shirt episode. Overall, I wasn't too excited about the shirts (but thought that almost all of their bottoms were great.) They need to tone down the sparkle and lace. A few shirts with a simple cut are needed. And there are a few dresses that give me the willies like Rennaisance Faire.

But I really liked all of their skirts as they had a nice vintage feel to them. This art deco skirt got a gasp of pleasure. And I appreciated how they seemed to have some retro detailing and cuts that actually flatter big cabooses.

If you shop at IGIGI be sure to use the coupon code WRAP and get 10% off. You can also check out Ozlem's Myspace page. I think this is a site well worth checking out if you are working mommy, have a wedding to go to or need an excuse to take a shower and get the heck outta dodge with your husband/date/girlfriend. A few of the outfits might make you cringe but their are some treasures that make the visit more than worth it.

Dang, how do we get clothing designers to send us goodies we can KEEP? Y'know, good ole'fashioned test drives on REAL people.

You've got it going on Mzzzz Lotta!

Chica - I got a Big old box of clothing from target that I get to keep. I have to put together a little review of it soon since it's from their new fall line!

Lisa - I know, I may have to buy it!
