Kitchen Update: Cabinets! Sink!

The kitchen is very unreal to me right now. I keep seeing our old chipped, painted, plywood cabinets transposed over the new Ikea ones. It's like I can't make my eyes focus because my brain doesn't actually believe that there's a new kitchen. It's so pretty! We're so used to busting our behinds to make ends meet not to get a big home improvement project. I keep thinking I'll have to hand over the kitchen when we're done.

You see all those empty spaces where appliances go? So far the appliance fairy has been a no show even though I keep putting my old stove knobs under my pillow at night. But we agreed that once the bulk of the kitchen was installed we would catch up with bills before Sallie Mae stops by to bust our kneecaps. I may be doing dishes in that sink for awhile yet but that's ok - how yummy is that sink?

And may I say that husband is amazing. The fact that he measures and cuts and gets it right blows me away. But his tenacity is is incredible. He worked from 9 am to 10 pm, almost nonstop today. And he''ll get up at 6 am tomorrow to get ready for work. Then he'll start working on the kitchen immediately after work tomorrow. How did I luck out with this one?

Me? I pick up and repick up the house till I feel like I'm in that movie Groundhog Day. Stopping to watch episodes of Season I, ROME by HBO (So good!) when my right eye starts twitching. I think the next phase is installing shelves in the cabinets, handles on the doors and drawers and selling bad gifts on ebay so we can buy our laminate counter top. That's all for now!

I have much envy over your cabinets

it looks fantastic!! You should enter some sweepstakes and win your new appliances. That way your knee caps stay in tact and you can use the spare money (ha ha ha) at the spa

Lotta, that kitchen is so gorgeous and SIMPLE (totally my cup of tea). I'm a brokeass mama, too, but unfortunately, my husband is NOT AT ALL handy, and he'd rather pay someone to do that stuff. I guess I need to learn how to do it.

Looks good!!

Love the sink!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are in the process of buying a new home and the kitchen needs to be gutted (actually all of the house needs major work) but before we move in the kitchen gets done - so does the ceiling, floors, painting.... Unfortunately Hubby nor I is any kind of handy person with a set of tools so I am looking at stuff I want and trying to figure out how to be my own contractor.

Ah, it makes you want to embrace your inner Swede, does all that light wood from Ikea. Use it in good health, Lotta.

I love kitchens!!

I also just recently got a new one.. (well a whole new house to be exact).. Aren't handy husbands the best!!

However my husband had a few points knocked off his rating today. He installed the mirror in the bathroom (4ft by 5 ft NOT SMALL) and braced it like he was supposed to for even more time than the glue said and two hours after he removes the braces the mirror promptly fell off the wall and smashed into a million pieces. I really hope there isn't anything to that bad luck thing.

Oh well, I guess he can't get it right all the time!
