Kitchen Update: Stuff's happening!

Jepson Floors came and sanded and sanded and sanded. I didn't think there would be any floor left! But they revealed a super pretty maple floor. It even has some random bird's eye maple planks in it. Then they put a "neutral" stain on it to warm it up. They have been great, even coming by on a Sunday to put the first coat of high traffic poly on the floor so that husband could start hanging the cabinets this week. Thanks again Mary Fran for the recommendation!

The walls. The walls. I LOVE them! All of your comments were so amazingly helpful. I wavered between your suggestions of red and slate blue. But in the end Judy reminded me that yellow and slate blue were the colors I put on the blog and so I must like them together. Doh! So the blue won out! It looks awesome next to the Concord Ivory (yellow) halls.

The living room is a solid wall of half assembled Ikea cabinets right now. Husband was up late into the night cursing the directions that made him insert a slvovergann too far into a varswegan
hole. Or something like that. I hope he hangs some up on the wall soon!

The walls look beautiful. We didn't have the money, so my husband sanded and stained our little entry way himself, bless his heart. And, boy, does it look like a DIY job. Way too dark, uneven, with puddling. You were so wise to have it done professionally.

I keep telling myself it won't matter once I get a rug on it.

Love the floor...it's gorgeous. We're about to start some home-improvement projects ourselves...I never thought of documenting before (duh!) but I am taking the digital camera into big boy's room now to document the "before".

Can you share the name of that color? I don't live anywhere near you, so I SWEAR no one will ever know I copied your beautiful walls.

That blue does look really nice with the pretty floors. Can't wait to see the cabinets! I'm sure you can't either.

Lotta - we had our oak floors on the main floor (except the entry which was tiled in these fugly huge ceramic tiles) and our pine floors on the upper floor done professionally. Worth every penny, I must say. I think it cost about $1800 for both levels - perhaps I'm a bit high, as I know it was $900 for the bottom level, visquined off (I'm a bear about that sanding dust) and 4 layers of poly.

At this point we are way too poor to even *think* of having anything done professionally. Until my diss is filed, we are officially on short rations - and I have a good deal of "native thrift", as my mother would put it.
