Race to Christmas

I saw this review of a Nascar racing school over at Mums Gather and it’s making me reevaluate our “Let’s not give each other anything for Christmas this year” agreement. I’m pretty sure that if I gave husband a gift certificate to the Dale Jarrett Racing School he would be insane with joy.

There is a possibility that we may be going to Texas this January and one of the racetracks is in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. There is no way I can swing a 40-lap package for 2K. But I think $150 for 3 laps around the track is quite reasonable. I'm pretty sure I could scrounge that up by listing a few things on eBay. Especially considering this is a gift he’s not likely to forget.

This is a man who wakes up at the same time every day,
almost never calls in sick and reads the kids a bedtime story at 7:30 every night. His life is like clockwork – how awesome would it be to give him a thrill ride at racing school? Something he would never imagine himself doing? And how much of a hero would he be when son saw his dad taking laps around the track?

I think I’m going to do it! Do you think it would look bad if I upped his life insurance policy before the trip?

I've done a couple of those activity days for 'im indoors. Rally driving, Formula Ford and flying lessons - he loved them all, and you get great photos. Plus, you usually get a chance to ride along in a trial car as a passenger too. I nearly hurled.

I *did* hurl during the flying lesson, light aircraft+turbulence=VERY bumpy ride. I had to throw up into the pilot's map - he wasn't a happy guy.

My brother did this at the D/FW raceway and he loved it!!! Unfortunately for the rest of us, he STILL talks about it.

My husband and I did the 3 lap ride-a-long and tour at the Las Vegas racetrack with the Richard Petty Experience group. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done. I would highly recommend it and you should totally spring for a ticket for yourself as well. :)

my brother would LOVE this, although he's more of an Indy car guy. but this sounds like an awesome gift for your husband!

how great it is to be able to give someone something they'd REALLY love. when people ask me "hey, what do you want for christmas?" i'm always at a lost for words. i really want to say..."a townhouse!" or "my husband home!" (lol) so everything else (short of cash lol) sort of pales in comparison. but anyway, i digress...your husband will have a ball!

thanks for stopping by my blog! please come again.

I read everyday but have never commented.
I think this is a great idea. I was moved to tears.
I think you should go for it! Our guys are forever getting socks and books and just whatever for Christmas and they are happy with it. Why not give a gift that makes him truly happy.
I have a shotgun hidden away. We went clay shooting this fall and Hubby loved it. It is all he talks about. I hate guns! But, I know this will make him incredibly happy!
Love your blog by the way...
