House plants give me the Heeby Jeebies. There's nothing skeevier to me than a twining vine inside my house. Outside it's lovely, but inside it's all too Little Shop of Horrors . Son's preschool teacher was telling me how some vine seeds got washed down the school's kitchen drain and a vine grew up into the sink. I gasped and asked her if she poured bleach down the drain? But no, they let the vine creep up, up and around the pipes hanging from the ceiling. Holy hell.
But I'm a sucker for compact flowering plants in my home. Especially spring bulbs. I think it's because the color is so pretty and they tend to not creep along. They just stay put and look pretty.
I got the gnome as part of a shop trade I did with Project Grab Bag. I LOVE it and can't wait till she wants to swap again so I can get some gnomey friends for her.
And these are the curtains we bought from Ikea. Husband hemmed them as I just about popped a gasket trying to make them PERFECTLY straight and even across the bottom. And by "hemmed" I mean he used the little steam-a-seam strip they included in the package to iron it short. But to his credit they are dead even.
And those dangling light sockets will soon be replaced with new and awesome lights from the Chicago Lightology store. We discovered that husband was able to get a nice discount by flashing his architecture biz card at the store. Ah, the sweet perks of being an underpaid architect.
