Blogher08, Xanax and Hearing Aids

Remember when I asked who kicked Karma's ass for me? Well apparently that person did a bang up job because I just heard some great news about BlogHer08. I'm going to be a panelist! I'll be sitting up in front during one of the sessions, chiming in like I know what the heck I'm talking about. This means that if you are at the San Francisco BlogHer and need some Xanax come find me because I'll have a giant size bottle rattling under the skirted conference table.

I don't want to say what the panel is about yet because I don't think BlogHer has announced the tracks and sessions and I don't want to ruin any surprises. But we need to work out some hand signals ahead of time. This way I can cue you all if I need a distraction after saying something idiotic. Like maybe you could fake a choking fit or start speaking in Pig Latin.

But I'm so excited to get drunk with see some old and new blog friends again. And Dooce is going to be there for the closing session! She's like the blogging equivalent o
f Elvis. But without the bloat and the sparkly jumpsuits.

The only thing nagging at me right now is my hearing loss. Last year I had some trouble hearing some of the sessions and just about all of the opening and closing ones that were in the big hall. Insurance doesn't cover the cost of hearing aids so it's something I've put off doing for years. But it's starting to sink in how much I miss - and how stressful it is worrying if you will be able to hear what's going on around you.

I think I'm just going to be super excited for a few days, then I'll contact the hotel to see if they have any listening devices. If not, I'll be the one at the conference with the giant cornucopia sticking out of my ear so I don't miss a thing.

Congratulations! That is awesome! Maybe someday they will care about what I have to say (not likely). I'm a Dooce fan, too. You'll have to tell me what she's like.

P.S. My dad is hard of hearing too, and he won't get a hearing aid. We always feel like we aren't including him in the conversation because he tunes us out when he can't hear. If you can tell me the magic words to say to change the mind of a stubborn old man, lemme know.

It's much better if you don't hear. Makes it easier to ignore the stupid comments and make more about you, you, YOU. (As it should be.)

Congrats, Lotta!

Introvert - Your comment reminded me of a commercial in my area for a hearing aid company...their commercial says, "...because a hearing LOSS is more noticeable than a hearing AID." I don't know if those are "magic words," but they made me stop and think for a second.
