What $100 in Buttons Looks Like

This is my Elkhorn Button Lady Stash. Please excuse the blurry pictures, I'm pretty sure I was still trembling with excitement as I unpacked them!

Vegetable Ivory buttons for framing - though maybe for selling framed?

Miniature glass buttons - these cards are for framing in my kitchen.

A mix of loose Bakelite, glass and figural buttons.

Sorry, this one's really blurry. But they are glass buttons, mostly depression era. Most of these will go into jewelry though I do have a bunch of cards like this framed in my bedroom.

Black Glass buttons, one or two Victorian ones in the mix. I bought these for framing but I'm not sure they match my house. These may end up framed for sale on Etsy.

MOP or Mother of Pearl buttons. I thought it would be fun to try and make some pretty rings with these. Sort of a white on white combo.

Some inexpensive vintage buttons to use as a base for jewelry. Though, there is no way I would find those white ones in the upper left hand corner for $1.50 a set online!

Our first purchase actually, a lot of cigar boxes for $3! Sister, mom and I split them up. My kids claimed two of them and I admit I hesitated to share. But what better place for treasures than a cigar box? Son put an arrowhead I got for him inside one and daughter filled hers with buttons she's slipped from me. "Do you need this one mommy? What about this one?". Pretty hard to resist a button beggar that cute.

Hell, if I knew you liked cigar boxes, I would have sent you a butt load to get them out of my house. We even had a few Cuba ones, but shhhhhh it is a secret. :)

Seriously, if you would like some cigar boxes, let me know and I can send you some. I don't know what kind you are looking for, but they would be recent ones. Dh smokes a lot of cigars.

Oh YEAH baby! Ya done good! It'd be so hard to pick. Maybe you should make sure she has made button related provisions for when she passes. ;-)

You could always make cigar box purses. They seem to be all the rage now.

Dang, that's a lot of good buttons for $100!

I can't get over feeling like a cigar box is the best place for special treasures. They seem so mysterious.

Cigar boxes are great for stashing kid stuff. When I was a kid my dad would give us cigar boxes for our school pencil boxes and all the other kids wanted them, while I wanted the cool plastic ones that they had. Course, nowadays you'd be kicked out of school if you brought a cigar box.

Somo - Send them! I'm outgrowing my jello tins for organizing buttons. I'll totally pay you in swap.

Jen - How exactly should I bring that up? "Sooooo when you, you know kick it. Who gets the buttons?"

I used to love to play in my mom's buttons. Seeing your post makes me think of digging out some buttons that I have put away somewhere, putting them in a big bowl, and then running my hands through them. Mmm.

OMG the buttons are so cool! And the cigar boxes? Too awesome. Remember the school boxes from when we were kids? Pretty much a cigar box, but with kid decorations on them?

Canary - I do remember those!
