WTF SPF?

Though this picture could also be titled (twangy guitar) "Mama don't let your babies apply sunscreen". But honestly, what is a lone mom supposed to do? I just can't bring myself to ask a total stranger mom to rub lotion onto my back.

Me: Hi. You don't know me but I need you to thoroughly rub this nicely scented lotion all over my back and shoulders. Oh, could you move my straps aside total stranger? By the way, if you take longer than 5 minutes you'll have beat my husband's average massage time. Snort! Wait. Why are you walking away?

OUCH! Sorry to hear you're in pain. But what I really want to know is, what's that tat?

yee-ouch! My sympathy is with you. We found a cool spray on sunscreen for our little man, could work for self-application on mom backs as well.

oh dear! is that really your back? Oy Lotta! that looks painful!

A bumble - I'll have to pick up some spray tan. They are just so stinky.

Muffy - It is. I took this picture last night and it's better today. But hello skin cancer.

MrsSchwaltz - Guess!

Your sun burn is radiating heat thru the inter - nets. Is that noxema I smell?

Jennifer said...

Oh honey, get the spray! Target has great store-brand spray at a good price, or you can swing for the pricier Neutrogena for UVA/UVB protection.

My friend Ashley swears that Benadryl is great for sunburn pain relief, along with Advil. I burned my thighs in the Bahamas in May and it was horrible.

You are looking thin, mama!

Domestic Chicky said...

OMG-screw the burn-look how freakin skinny you are!!!!!

ps-smells godawful, but vinegar will take the sting out :-)

Lotta said...

Caron - It is. Love that smell.

Jennifer - Done. You could have cooked an egg on my back last night. Do you crush the benny and put it on your skin or eat it?

Domestic - So not thin! It's because all my fat is on my ass and thighs. Besides, do you see how I am carefully holding my arms away from my body. You may think that's the burn pain but it's really me trying not to show you the full span of my wing flaps.

DM - PS I just cut about 4-5 inches off my hair. I debated leaving it long so I could be all glamorous at BlogHer. But I couldn't take it anymore and had to cut it off.

Oh, that is hurting me BAD just to look!

My worst sunburn experience happened on a cool, overcast beach, so we totally didn't feel like we were getting burned, then we went to a movie, and by the time the movie was over, we couldn't straighten our legs or move because everything was burned.

Holy Crap......... you look skinny!

I'm jealous....... so, so jealous!

You rock the burn Babe!

Lotta, you eat it!

We were actually on the cruise when this happened and I was really drunk and I started calling my thighs my glazed hams. You should come for 2009, it's the best time.

Lotta said...

Lotta - Ooh that happened to my friend and she had to get this silver stuff from the ER to put all over her body.

Judi - I don't know what kind of screens you all have but they need to be adjusted. 210 pounds my friend. 42.5 pounds skinn"ier" but not skinny.

Jennifer - I'm eating it now. Will you bug me when the cruise comes around? I'm sure I won't be able to afford it - but bug me all the same. Maybe I can steal some money.

PS - That stretchy terry thing was $10 at Walmart in the pj section. I love it. It's cheap as hell, but it's sooo much better than wearing a robe when blowdrying. And son is not traumatized by seeing my foldover belly.

YOWZA! That is almost purple! This is the part where you teach your children to SPF your back. Then you would probably just have little spots of burn where they missed.

Katrina said...

Lordy! I agree, get the spray kind or use the kids kind that has a tint like blue so the kids can see where it goes on. (the color goes away) And you are looking skinnier! Gooooo Lotta!

Little Monkies said...

Hi HOT mama! Wow, seriously Lotta, that could have been an ad for some cool beauty product...minus the sunburn of course.

Fab cut, too.

Damn woman, you look sexy! That hair, that back! Mmmmhmmm!

Lotta, it's about $400, plus booze, plus airfare to Ft. Lauderdale. We normally leave out of Port Canaveral but we've done that the past 3 years and we want a change of scenery!

I'll bug you and send you the details offline.

I hope you are feeling better today!

Most frustrating thing about burns like that? You don't get the satisfaction of peeling it since it's out of sight/out of reach.

I'll add that for the spray on sunscreens, look for the kind that you can spray upside down since that's how you'd have to hold the can.

nikki said...

Oh hell, that looks painful. I did the same thing last year.

(BTW- you look so freaking skinny in that picture!)

Lotta said...

DD - Oh God I can't take peeling. In highschool when my friends would burn so badly they would peel - they would make a point to torture me by peeling the skin in front of me. Gag. I just can't take the skin in the carpet idea.

Nikki - I'm so glad THE BACK OF MY HEAD looks so great to you all. ;)

Kirstine - It's the Walmart terry wrap that's got you all hot and bothered. I know it is.

Lotta, get high SPF like 50, and while you have no suit (or clothing) on, spray your back, your "wings" (the armpit part) and if you bend at the waist and work hard, you can actually spray into the air and over your back and feel it landing where it is supposed to be. We live at the beach (for real), and we are at the beach daily in the summer, and I use high SPF clear no rub spray (Coppertone Sport 50) and reapply only once, and I don't burn at all, ever. (I do have skin that tans, though). Anyway, give it a try. You don't have to rub it at all, just spray. You can even check in the mirror. And Neutrogena (?) or Aveeno, one of them, makes a SPF of 70.

Hope your back is better soon.

Not unusual - I think I saw a few like that out on the Strip during my lunchtime walk today. It still makes me say OUCH!!!

Darrin said...

OUCH!! I've got one very similair from working in the yard for 3 hours LAST weekend! I'm now moving from the painful to the itchy stage.

MsPrufrock said...

This is the most trite, likely annoying comment ever, but - OUCH. I'm a pale person and victim of many bad sunburns, so I feel your pain. Ugh. Aloe! Aloe!

Rapunzel said...

Lotta, OUCH! Living in South Florida for most of my life, this has happened to me on more occasions than I care to admit. The ONLY thing that has worked (even better than aloe) is a product made by Jafra. I've been using it for 20 years now, it's the bomb!
