Spank'n Kate

So Kate's on the cover of In Touch giving her daughter a spanking. I'll probably be vilified for this one - but the only thing wrong with that picture is that's it's not Maddy. Maddy's the one that needs a bit o' whoop ass.

Simmah down now anti-spankers. I'm not saying we should all spank our kids. Or that Kate Gosselin isn't a raging bitch. What I'm saying is that it makes me feel skeevy and not right to see "motherhood" on the front pages of gossip magazines.

It makes me imagine a future publication called Bad Mothers. Where paparazzi lie in wait in at local suburbs so they can catch regular moms in low parenting moments.

Brookfield Mother Told Her Children They Are, "Killing her softly"!

West Suburban Mom Let Her Children Eat McDonalds For 3 Meals Straight!

Illinois Parents Put in An Elmo DVD So They Could Have Sex While The Children Were Awake!

Kate may have invited this all in with her show, Jon & Kate Plus 8. But if the media catches on to the fact that we're all fascinated with crap mothering features? It's only a matter of time before they come to take pictures of you letting your kids wearing stained clothing and eating their boogers.

I know I wouldn't last in that house as the parent without a little spankin' action going on. The think I absolutely hate is those magazines. period. What about the kids, when they go to the grocery store?

One of my parenting lows was caught on video, and it's one of the kids favorite home video moments. They like to play it over, and over... and over. *sigh*

TOTALLY- that little maddy needs a kick in the pants!

For the first time I have sympathy for Kate - and I don't even really care for her at all.

And I'm really sad for little 'not-Maddy' (who seriously does need a smack on her sassy bottom) who now has these pictures floating around for the rest of her life.

I agree.

That Maddy is a terror, she should have been spanked years ago.

Preach it sistah!

BINGO~ You nailed it. I would so spank that little Maddy or at least wash her mouth out with nasty soap. I do agree though, chances are she will turn out ok and have this film footage to haunt her. Why they are still on camera I do not know!

But wait! It's not OK to photograph a fame-whoring mom whacking her kid, but it is OK to talk smack about an 8-year-old who never asked to be on TV in the first place, and who doesn't need a spotlight on her in the second place, and clearly needs some one-on-one and IN PRIVATE attention from her parents in the third place?

Come on, people! Show the kid some love! Kate needs to shut off the cameras and give out some hugs.

As much as you wouldn't want "bad parenting" shown in all the magazines, how much worse is it to portray an innocent child as an uber-brat on TV and be paid for it??? At least the parents have a choice about whether to be on TV or not. Or in the magazines, for that matter, since they have both given interviews for cover stories.

I don't watch enough to know if Maddy is a smart mouth; but it sounds like she's her mother's child. That's Kate at age 8.

I'm not talking smack about a child; but I do know that kids will get mouthy until Mom or Dad reminds them whose boss.

One spanking Mom,

Little Maddy always seemed to me to be acting like her mom- bratty, controlling, and tantrum throwing. It is well past the time that these kids should be seen on TV. One or 2 seasons is okay, but their entire childhood? It's awful for them..

Yesterday on a gossip website, I saw an "upskirt" photo of Kate. She was wearing pink underpants, but it could have been a bathing suit. And yeah... I looked...

By the way, my gripe isn't really with any of you (us) talking about the child, it's with the parents for displaying her for anybody to comment on!

And I indict myself too, because I watch the crap!

I don't know - the Maddy thing was a joke. The main point of my post was that it pisses me off how moms are vilified/judged.

And that it's dangerous to start bringing this judgement into a popular mag. Dangerous for all moms. There's enough "I would never" out there in the world to choke on.

I really am not backing the Jon & Kate situation. Does that make sense?

My friend & I were talking about this exact thing earlier - about how society is very quick to judge mothers.

It's sad, because if they start drawing up lists of "bad moms", I doubt there would be anyone who would be left off.

At the end of the day, if my kid is happy, healthy & loved, then I consider myself good mom. Even if she got a swat on the bottom at 6pm for throwing her dinner plate off the table because she didn't want to eat the 3 bites of broccoli I gave her.

YES.

But magazines only print what they know will sell; we're all culpable.

I do agree with what you're saying, Lotta. I just think that in this particular case, Kate has brought it all upon herself. You can't really put your whole life and the lives of your children on TV and then whine that you want your privacy.

And I think she's a bad mom, not for a swat, but for whoring out her kids for houses, spa visits, and new clothes.

I love how they are going to "Announce" their divorce on National Television on MOnday's episode all in the name of ratings. There is a special place in hell for people who think this is ok.

I like how they use the word "hit" instead of "spank" as if she backhanded her across the face or something. I'm with you. The judging needs to stop. She's wrangling eight children for goodness sakes.
