In Memoriam: Denver J. Hinkle

About a week ago an old classmate contacted me via Facebook, Denver (DJ) Hinkle. We went to a very small school together, Kindergarten through eighth grade with a graduating class of under 50. We all knew each other from the time we carried metal lunchboxes through the parachute pants wearing 1980s. And DJ emailed wanting to catch up, brag about our kids and talk about where we ended up in life. We agreed to get back to each other as soon as life was less hectic.

DJ was my first "circle yes, no or maybe if you want to go out" boyfriend, first boy to give me flowers and an Avon necklace for Valentines. He was sweet and goofy and tall. Had a great sense of humor. I've no idea what his life was like for him after we moved on from school together. I know from his Facebook page he has two gorgeous kids and started his own business. I know I was looking forward to hearing more about his journey so far. But this past weekend he died in a motorcycle crash.

We're so sorry to have lost you DJ. Prayers for you and your family.

Tanya

I'm sorry to hear about your classmate/friend. 3 people from my graduating class have died in the last year - and we're much too young for that.

Areyou - We've lost quite a few folks from our highschool class - it is odd and wrong isn't it? Puffer (our k-8th school) was really small and everyone knew each other for so long. This is especially sad. I feel awful for his kids.

How bittersweet. I don't believe in coincidence, so there must be some reason you and your friend reconnected just prior to his passing. So sorry about this loss and so sorry for his family. (((hugs)))

Oh Tanya! One of mine too...In our ever evolving Jr. High Boyfriend rotation, he made me a stuffed heart in home-ec, that was red and furry and said "D.H. loves R.K.". What a great memory you stirred up. Thank you..

Rhonda - He had the sweetest heart. Hugs.

DJ was like a brother to me... I lived down the block from his family. Our family, the Votavas and the Hinkles did a lot of family stuff together. I just got in touch with him a little while back on Facebook....
Rest In Peace DJ

You mention he had the sweetest heart. I wanted you to know that DJ's heart is still alive. In death he gave someone else a chance to live, you see DJ gave his heart to a person in need. He also donated several of his other organs. There are 5 people alive today thanks to DJ. May God watch over him.

That....is beautiful. I don't know what more can be said about this person's sad and unexpected passing, but that at least it made good things for others.

My warmest digital hug for you Momomatic.
