Keeping Up My Mental Health Rep

Have you ever noticed how when you drive through McDonald's there are often 3 voices taking your order, usually a mix of male and female? One asks if you want to try a special, the other tells you they are ready for your order and then another actually takes your order?

Well I have taken note of this and decided to figure out what the business strategy was. Am I supposed to feel more taken care of as a customer if it seems as though an entourage of McDonald's employees are serving me? So I pulled up to pay for my giant diet coke today and asked the woman,

"Why....are there so many voices?"

And the look of fear and concern she gave me made me burst into hiccupy, wheezy laughter as I realized how that must have sounded. And I couldn't elaborate, I had to just drive away.

That's awesome! I wish I had been in the car with you to whirl my finger next to my temple and roll my eyes at the cashier!

I love you.

Also, at my McDonalds some of the orders are taken from India. True story.

Voices? Is that like a drive through thingie? I've never been to one....(my ignorance continues to fascinate me)

Areyou - That would have been awesome!

Jenny - You too baby. Outsourced? Interesting.

JC - Truly? I curse the day I ever realized how easy it was to drive thru and pick up a cup of diet coke as large as my head.

This may sound completely alien, but here goes : I've not been to a McDonalds in decades. And our kids have never been either. My son went to a birthday party there once....but where are the voices coming from?

JC - Where do the voices come from? That is a loaded question, ha! But in this case they come from a speaker box that you order your food through. I think that 2 of the 3 voices are prerecorded and one is the actual live attendee.

Amanda - I haven't been back there yet I'm too afraid I'll start laughing at myself and freak her out even more if I were to see her again.

How lucky you are my McDonalds only has one voice. I'd like more voices to keep my voices company.

Hahahaha!! I worked at McDonald's years ago. Lots and lots of years! From my days working in the drive through, that experience would have been a result of having a busy crew and the person who was available at that very moment taking your order. Maybe that was the way each of those 3 people opened their order taking request? I'm willing to bet the drive through girl had a good laugh over that!

how did I loose you! I used to read your blog all the time. God Bless The Bloggess yet again for bringing the shining goodness of other crayzees to my world.

Linah - A bit of insanity with your crispy chicken salad is always a good thing.

Amanda - I don't know, she looked really concerned. That's what made me laugh so hard! ;)

Stitch - I'm easy to lose as I tend to hide out every so often when I get overwhelmed. But I'm back, and your back and it's awesome!

I have a friend who used to work at Arby's and she and her coworkers used to deliberately switch speakers like this as a practical joke on the customers.
