A very similar scene played out at a McDonald's Drive Thru not so long ago.....This timeour protagonist - that's me - is calling in a prescription refill to her local Walgreens.
Pharmacist: Thank you mam. Can I help you with anything else?
Me: No, well yes actually. Did you know that while I was on hold, waiting to talk to a pharmacist, the music that was playing, the hold music, was I Want To Be Sedated by The Ramones?
Pharmacist: Yes?
Me: Get it? Cause I'm calling the pharmacy to get my medication and you're playing a song about wanting to be knocked unconscious with drugs. Kind of funny right? Ironic and hilarious no?
Pharmacist: (Pause) Mam, is there anything else I can help you with?
Really? That's the only response you got? Time to switch pharmacies! I can see it now..."Do you take my insurance? Are you open 24 hours? Would you find it amusing if 'I Wanna Be Sedated' played on the On Hold music while I was waiting?"
I've never had a pharmacist respond to my attempts at humor... and I've tried! It's kind of sad really, when they have so many opportunities in their line of work.
Oh my, that is hilarious! I always get a grumpy old lady named Betty at my pharmacy when I pick up my meds. She did give my pug a dog biscuit the other day though, so she won some brownie points.
I'm married to the man I fell in love with in high school. He claims I amuse him daily, I claim I drove him crazy long ago. We both agree that we still love each other even though our asses look nothing like they did in 1989. We managed to produce two incredible kids that amaze, enthrall and exhaust us.

That's hilarious!!! Prolly a combo of no sense of humour combined with lack of exposure to meaningful culture.
I don't understand having a bad sense of humor and being a pharmacist. There is so much material to work with!
